WWMT Frequently Asked Questions

Will you make a version for my 3D Application (Maya, XSI, Blender, etc)?

No. I only own 3ds Max and have no experience in other 3D apps.

There are already some plugins for other 3D apps that you can look into:

If you want to port my application (I've kept the source code un-encoded) please feel free. Please make sure to provide credit in your code to Shawn Olson along with links in your website to the official WWMT site.

Can you add Feature X?

If you have a feature request, please do it in the Wall Worm Forums. That way others can see your request and consolidate theirs with yours.

After Installing WWMT, the export dialogue for the normal (File > Export) doesn't pop up for me. Why?

When Wall Worm Model Tools exports your models using the Wunderboy SMD Exporter 1.5 or older, it must run in batch mode. When it does this, it has to create a INI file for the exporter to run in batch mode. When WWMT is done exporting, it usually deletes that file... unless there was some kind of error that prevented WWMT from deleting the file.

If you are having this problem, you should delete the smdexp.ini file. By default this file is located in the plugcfg folder inside your root installation of 3ds Max. However, it is also sometimes written to the application data directory for your installation of Max... which is located in a place like this for Windows 7:

C:\Users\WindowsUsername\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2011 - 64bit\enu\plugcfg

Simply find and delete smdexp.ini

*Note: The smdexp.ini is not part of Wunderboy's SMD Exporter 1.6+. In 1.6 , you do not need to ever use the ini file for exporting in batch mode; moreover, the File > Export > SMD will always prompt a dialogue.

Why are the changes I make in WWMT not getting exported?

In version 1.58 a new setting was added to the Settings of WWMT called Overwrite Existing QC. The default is to be off--which tells WWMT not to update/overwrite QC files for pre-existing models. When disabled, the Export Model button will only run the SMD exporters if the QC file was already made. If you want to old method, simply turn this feature on.

Will WWMT always be free?

Unless some very large company buys this program from me, then yes, the program will remain free. I assume it will always be free. I made this tool so that I wouldn't have to deal with all the crap that goes into making models for Source. I did not make this program with the intent of making money off of it.

What is Convexity? Do I need to buy Convexity to use WWMT?

Convexity is a badass level design plugin for 3ds Max. No, you will not need Convexity to use WWMT. However, in order to use the Automatic Collision Hull Generator utilized in an upcoming version of WWMT, you will need to have Convexity.

Is Convexity Free? And Where do I get it?

At the moment, Convexity is not free. The developer has plans to release a limited, watered-down version for free sometime in 2011... and that version will provide auto collision hull creation inside WWMT. However, there will be more advanced features that only those who own Convexity Pro will be able to use. Get Convexity at www.maple3d.com

Why are you promoting Convexity so much? Are you getting a kickback?

No, I am getting no kickbacks. In fact, I have paid a pretty penny for all of my own copies of Convexity! I am promoting it because I love the program so much that I hope other level designers and 3d artists will buy Convexity and help encourage Michael Little to continue to develop it!

Will WWMT help me get laid?

Suprisingly, yes! This is because you will no longer have to spend countless hours making all those damned QC files and compiling your models manually! Instead, you can use that time to spend with your girlfriend or wife!
